Project Manager

Position Description:

JPI has an opening for a Consultant with five or more years management consulting experience and three or more years direct project management experience. This position will be working with Department of Homeland Security clients to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Creating Project Management-related strategies and action plans 
  • Full management of all phases of project lifecycle 
  • Developing project artifacts including charters, process guides, fact sheets, and correspondence 
  • Development and management of project plans, Plans of Actions and Milestones (POAM) and Integrated Master Schedules (IMS), including creating Work Breakdown Structures (WBS), defining and sequencing activities, estimating activity resources and durations, and developing schedule 
  • Executing on existing project plans, action plans, and internal and external communications strategies, including controlling schedule 
  • Use of project management information systems to support ongoing project management efforts 
  • Creating project status briefings and reports 
  • Leading and facilitating both working and senior/ executive level client meetings and exercises 
  • Identifying strategies for automating and implementing efficient work management processes 
  • Mapping complex business processes and communicating process solutions to the client 
  • Developing meeting and briefing materials, including agendas, meeting minutes, briefings, and talking points 
  • Drafting business case analyses, reports, whitepapers, and other complex documents 
  • Additional activities include participating in program management working sessions and supporting program managers in executing day-to-day project management activities 
  • Data analytics, forecasting, performance measurement, and quantitative and qualitative metrics development


  • Bachelor's degree in business, information systems, communications or a related field. MBA or Master’s degree is a plus 
  • PMP certification or other Project Management education is a plus 
  • Management consulting experience, with at least three years of experience directly managing projects, deadlines and project teams in a client environment 
  • Deep understanding of project management methodologies (processes, best practices, tools) 
  • Hands-on experience managing complex projects, project plans, plans of action and milestones, and integrated master schedules, including creating Work Breakdown Structures (WBS), defining and sequencing activities, estimating activity resources and durations, and developing and controlling schedule 
  • Hands-on experience with MS Project or other scheduling software (ie: Primavera, MS Project Server, etc.) is a plus 
  • Hands-on experience supporting large, complex programs and supporting program management offices 
  • Deep understanding of database usage, report generation, budget forecasting, and data analysis 
  • Strong interpersonal, written and oral communication skills 
  • Strong, substantive writing experience and a portfolio of products developed in prior positions (based on level of experience) 
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to work effectively independently and in team settings to include close collaboration with program managers 
  • Proven ability to support multiple projects simultaneously in a deadline driven, process-oriented environment 
  • Experience in building and managing client relationships 
  • Experience in strategic communications and development of communications deliverables preferred but not required 
  • Experience in organizational transformation or change management preferred but not required 
  • Proficiency in and hands on use of Microsoft Excel and Office Suite required 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft SharePoint and Visio preferred but not required
